All is calm, all is bright

Happy Birthday

There is a formula used by the sports community to determine your theoretical maximum heart rate.
Max HeartRate = 220 - age
You can use this number to set zones of exercise and apparently you should spend a certain amount of time in each zone. Like most dogma, I thought it was complete crap. Having said that I will take the formula to determine my age. I hit a maximum heart rate of 181 while doing some workouts on my new trainer today. Lets see here, working backwards, I must 39!
Thanks to Cindy for keeping me so young.

In defense of canned beer

Now that we must carry most of our beer from the beer store to Nemo, the weight of an item matters.
Cans are lighter than bottles.
This is an outstanding beer from NC.

Ride to the beach

When you live in the city it easy to forget that Boston is actually a coastal town. Took a bike ride (20 min) to Fort independence on castle island. White sandy beaches.
Logan airport just across the water, and for those that have joined us at the Harpoon brewery, you will see that its close as well.
Brrr it was cold.

It looked a bit different back then.

Thanksgiving

A non-traditional meal this year. But if turkey is so great, why do we only have it once a year?

We had some healthy things. Roasted fall veggies.
Bourbon mashed Sweet potatoes.

Cranberry cake.

Onion pie.

Sriracha fried chicken

Pecan Pie.

A gulp of cold milk to put out the heat of the Sriracha peppers.
Somebody ate too much

Lips are sealed

What is a better burger than one topped with three fried oysters. We call that the empty set. I would show you a picture but I don't want to give away our special restaurant.

Dual dogs

Kobe beef hotdogs with all the fixings. You can pay more, but you won't find better than these from Harvard garden.

Pastry chef (Cindy)

Bam

Pho

A broth more mystical and personal than grandmas red sauce, random vegies (always noodles, basil, lime and hot peppers) best slurped to compliment the chef.

Yum?

Second read of a great book

Learn Forever, Die Tomorrow

Early on I came to believe that you should learn as if you were going to live forever, and live as if you were going to die tomorrow. What does this mean? In the simplest way, I would explain it like this.
Always be learning, acquiring knowledge, and seeking wisdom with a sense that you are immortal and that you will need much knowledge and wisdom for that long journey ahead. Know that when you are through learning, you are through.
But I want to live that life as if I were going to die tomorrow: with relish, immediacy, and the right priorities. I also will not waste even a minute.
